Jurisdiction-aware citation detection
TOAgen uses jurisdictional awareness to improve how it detects and marks legal citations in Microsoft Word documents. It identifies the likely primary jurisdiction and evaluates citations throughout the document to detect additional jurisdictions that may appear as supporting authorities. This helps TOAgen apply more precise citation-detection logic within the document’s actual citation environment.
Version 1.0 currently supports citation detection and marking logic for:
Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Virginia.
Useful fallback marking outside current coverage
When a document includes citations from jurisdictions not yet fully covered in version 1.0, TOAgen still attempts to mark them usefully rather than miss them entirely. In many cases, the user can quickly edit the marked citation and manually complete the full citation text. For statute citations that include a section symbol, TOAgen can often still mark the section symbol citation and the associated statutory reference, giving the user a practical starting point for quick completion.

TOAgen also supports advanced workflows, including TOA draft creation, PDF cleanup, and citation-based authority analysis, to support deeper review and strategy.
TOAgen’s AI-powered authority analysis helps legal teams get more value from the authority set already present in the document.
